Jamaica’s Data Protection Act in force

Jamaica’s Data Protection Act took force on 1 December 2023. The Office of the Information Commissioner (OiC) will be responsible for safeguarding individual’s rights to the privacy of their personal data. The OiC is giving a grace period of 6 months for all Data Controllers to register at: https://oic.gov.jm/ However at the time of writing, the online registration portal is not up and running so potential applicants are advised to check on a regular basis.

The OiC is encouraging Data Controllers to implement the necessary Technical and Organisational Measures in this period, if they have not already done so.
